Specialist parts include planetary gearboxes, used to take moisture out of the two skins within the aircraft body. Gear applications on these types of projects can include spur gears, helical gears, rack and pinion gears and worm and wheel gears. Within the aerospace industry we also supply hydraulic systems, actuators and spool valves within hydraulic systems. We are able to manufacture and supply these as part of the final product.
Actuators within the Aerospace sector are usually manufactured by the company to move, for example, aircraft control surfaces. These can be electrical actuators or be part of the hydraulic system, driving a lead screw or ball screw. At Muffett Engineering Solutions, we are able to supply the entire gearbox or source the lead screw and supply the complete system if required. All the manufacturing and assembly is carried out at our state-of-the-art facility in the South East of the UK, with excellent national and international transport links.
Occasionally the company is asked to supply a drive-train gearbox for a propeller-driven aircraft, including the gears within the gearbox. Muffett Engineering Solutions can source the casing, and machine and assemble the entire gearbox. Where the customer sources the engine, we are able to supply the drive train between the piston engine and the propeller.
Additional applications that Muffett Engineering Solutions have supplied within the Aerospace sector include gears used within the gearbox for powered tools that are used during aircraft manufacture. This includes drilling tools used for fitting aircraft wings or for machining other aircraft parts together.
